About Us
IS Candles SA is more than just a candle company—it's a symbol of transformation and hope. Our co-founder, Itumeleng Sekhu-Pedi, carries a powerful story of resilience and redemption. At just 11 months old, she suffered severe burns from a candle, losing four fingers on her left hand and her right hand entirely. This traumatic experience, compounded by a 70% burn on her face, led her to attempt suicide three times as she struggled with her self-image and future.
However, a pivotal moment came when a friend told her she would one day meet someone special who would take her to a candle-lit dinner. This inspired Itumeleng to confront her fear of candles. In 2017, she began making candles as a form of therapy, and thus, IS Candles SA was born with her first batch of strawberry candles. What once tried to destroy her has now become a therapeutic outlet and a beacon of hope for many.
Today, Itumeleng is a devoted child of God, a loving wife and mother, a bestselling author of What Do You See?, and the host of the podcast Perspective With Itu. Through her foundation, she ignites the potential of children in over 250 schools. Each candle from IS Candles SA represents more than just light; it symbolizes the inner flame that each person carries within them.
By purchasing our candles, you’re not only bringing light into your space but also igniting the candle that lives within you. From the very source of pain, Itumeleng has crafted a source of hope and inspiration.
